Provide Nutrition Security is the Responsibility of Food Industry

        After a cold winter, spring is coming to us. In this period of time, I represent the Center for Public Nutrition and Development, the Nutrition Improvement Office and myself to give the best greeting for the spring festival to those who working in nutrition industry, science and educational institutions, news system, government and both domestic and international non profit organizations, and readers of China Food Newspapers.

       The economy of China is developing with rapid speed, and the purchasing power of people gets increased. On the other hand, food supply and its processing technology get improved, and consequently the requirement of food consumption was satisfied for most of people. However, new problems which are unscientific and unreasonable diet structure now exist. It directly caused unbalanced nutrition and chronics, and it is extremely dangerous to human life and health now. Furthermore, unbalanced nutrition also negatively influences the health of youth and their growth. Moreover, too detailed food processing and reduced micronutrient of farm product also caused unbalanced nutrition absorption.

       Actual facts told us that medical operations and medical pills can not solve the problem of chronics and children growth which caused by malnutrition. Therefore, nutritionists in developed countries start to pay attention on food again. The trouble was caused by food, so we must solve the problem by using food. According to the logic of thinking, the best solution is control your mouth and eating your diet with science. However, control your mouth is not easy, scientist from different countries found that people do not know how to control their mouth because they do not have enough knowledge about nutrition, and they cannot control their mouth by themselves. Therefore, nutritional and functional foods start to develop in the globe. Furthermore, all kinds of fortified foods, food additives, low fat and low sugar food were invented. The tastes of those foods are very well, and it also satisfied the requirement of health by people. Therefore, they are widely welcomed by the public and with rapid speed of development. Traditional food industry plus modern science and technology equal to nutrition industry. The creativity and market opportunity of nutrition industry is unlimited.

       The annual per capital GDP of China is $2500 in USD. Most of people in China should have enough knowledge about healthy, and they should have enough money to purchase them. Food companies should catch the opportunity of market reorganization, develop their business, satisfy the consumption of the market, combined the R&D and the market orientation together, and get new opportunities in the new industry. Finally, I want to remind all of you that during the process of ¡°increase the food industry from full fill people¡¯s stomach and good taste to good taste and health.¡± The most important thing for the sustainable growth of food industry is R&D and creativity.

       2008 is the year of China. The Olympic game will be held in Beijing and the whole world is concentrating in China. Therefore, it is a good opportunity for nutrition industry in China to show off. Finally, I will give my best wishes to all of you, thank you.
